The fact you're stripped of all gear at the start really leaves a sense of dread too, and a sense of a happy reunion once you retrieve your om a derelict factory hole full of Weepers.Ĭhanges in level setup/dynamics with High/Low chaos.
Everything feels rusted, overgrown and desolate, from the visuals to the music and even the enemy population across the level. Target Assassination animations felt much more brutal in most cases, alot of DH2 targets just make a sort of blank face halfway through (Delilah, Jindosh, Hypatia) that really throws me off- there isn't anything quite like Edgar Wakefield's brutal eyestab kill or making Havelok peer down the barrel of his own pistol before he split-second realizes you're pulling the trigger.įlooded District remains one of my favourite levels just because of its sheer atmosphere. I don't know why, it just feels so cold and chilling as opposed to DH2's more floaty edited voice. Some other things that 1 and 2 did better than the other (imo): You can't rely on sleep darts- but fully upgraded stun mines are in turn VERY useful, and there's certainly no lack of them throughout the game.
You can only carry 5 sleep darts max, but this in turn makes stealth runs harder and thus more satisfying as a result. However, 2 also adds alot more nonlethal combat possiblities for Clean Hands runs or generally evading direct combat. 1's nonlethal eliminations feel alot more brutal and gratifying, if you ask me- think Heretic's Brand on Campbell, and the following results.
